TERRITORIAL SYSTEM.
• (To the Siitor;. Sir, —In furtherance of '' Diggers'' illuminating article on our system of training, might I be allowed to add a lew remarks. Having been unavoidably present on many of the occasions mentioned, I can say they are true in overy respect. In addition to these, there might be mentioned the parade when five officers presented themselves before a, master of 35 men. Two of these directed us. The other three received inspiration from the finished and elegant manner in which wo performed that movement (practiced for live years) "Form Fours." Several of the different opinions held by officers could well bear repetition. "^^** j gain control over unruly lads," "™ v prepare you for the next war," "To impress upon you your obligations to the State. " Wo are impressed by the zeal of our instructors and their capability. Not only do we suffer lectures siicii us "Digger ,, has describe! bo faithfully, but language both pure and ornamental is thrust upon us. "Ab— sontees, answer your names," —and we are not all Irishmen. During our nocturnal sallies, camouflaged as "route marches,'. , our training consists of "marching easy," smoking, nod other mentally :iiul physical v:iting performances. In these many ways valuable time is lost, and young" moii can ill afford th-s, especially those engaged in study. When the happy dayarrives when our syllabus is modified to a more fitting programme, there will be .great rejoicing. .Rather than our present system, let us inaugurate an art needlework class in view of future do— instil 1 , responsibility. Someone will i benefit, even if we don't. —T am, etjA "DTOGKR'S Masiertoß. March 27th.
