NEW YORK, Friday

The New York Times' correspondent at Washington states that the United States Shipping Board has announced a wholesale reduction in ocean freight rates from the United States to Eur-i ope.

It is thought that this will enable American shippers to compete with Britain and otheri foreign nations.

The reductions include:—Naked steel, 15 dollars per ton; packed steel, IS dollars; rough measure cargo, 25 dollars; fine measure cargo, 30 dollars. The rates apply per ton of 2240 pounds, or 40 cubic feet, at ship's option. The reduction will bo made effective immediately.
