MUNICIPAL COAL SCHEME.
At the last meeting of the Borough Council, Cr McLeod urged that the time had arrived when tho Council should take steps to put into operation its municipal coal scheme, as the winter was approaching, and the heavy demand fo rcoal would soon set in. Cr McLeod indicated plainly that the Council should secure a supply of coal at once, so that the scheme would not result in failure through tho lack of a sufficient supply of coal to meet the needs of the poorer people. In reply to a question asked by Cr McLeod at the Borough. Council meeting, the manager of tho gasworks explained, that there had been considerable -difficulty experienced in securing coal, but he intimated that tho position would pvobably become easier later on. Mr Blackmail was instructed by the Council to . make- enquiries from various sources in regard to securing a supply of coal. Mr Blackmail, we understand, is to liave all the necessary information ready for the next meeting of the Borough Councils Finance Committee, and we can, therefore, expect the Council to move in tho matter of
securing coal as soon as a, source of supply is assured.
