THE EASTERN SITUATIONS.
There is a cable message to-day from Berlin in which it is stated that the situation in the East is extremely deli, cate. The Polish and Ukraine questions are far from satisfactory, we are told. Coming from Berlin, this message contains about as much truth as the story given to the world by the alleged war correspondents that the Germans wore under the impression that the Now Zealanders were cannibals, who first offered them cigarettes and then made a meal off the Germans. This cannibal story demonstrates how easy it is to pull tho leg of the war correspondent. Berlin has pulled Berne's leg over the eastern situation. When Germany announces to the world that a situation is delicate or desperate, then we may look for something else. We were told the other day that Turkey had severed relations with Germany, and this probably contains as much truth as the report of HJndenburg's death or the capture of Soissons by the Allies. The eastern situation may be a delicate one, but we must look to some other source than Germany for such news.
