A London cablegram states that the JEarl of Lichfield, Director of the Bank ■yf Australasia, and the National Provincial Bank of England, has died from .-a gunshot wound. Deceased was 62 .years of age, and owned 20,000 acres •of land in Staffordshire. A Press Association telegram from •Hastings states: —Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., who left yesterday to take up his duties as senior magistrate at Christchurch, waßfarewelled by the legal profession, justices of the peace, the licensing committee, court officials, and the Mayor, when highly eulogistic references were made to his ten years' service as magistrate in Hawke's Bay. The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mr T. P. Kemble, formerly of "Ernlast," Rangitumau, at the :age of 52 years. Deceased w-as formerly a prominent footballer and crick. •«ter, and was a member of the Carlton B team which won the Wairarapa Thursday Championship in 1903-04 and 1904-65. Shortly after disposing.of his property at Kangitumau he took up his residence at the Lower Hutt, but had .not resided there many months when Ms heatlh broke down. For th c last three years he had been under medical 'treatment. Messrs Charles and Robert Kemble, of Carterton, are brothers of . deceased. He loaves three daughters— Mrs'A. Larcombe (Christchurch), Miss Freda Kemble (Wellington), and Miss Ailsa Kemble (Christchurch). Mrs Kemble died about 14 years ago. Tho funeral will leave the Masterton rail--way Btation for the Masterton Cemetery to-morrow on arrival of the 2.30 D.m. train from Wellington.
