KICKING AGAINST THE KICKS.
Germany's policy all through th e ivar has been to bully her partners. She bullied Turkey and Austria into the war and threatened Bulgaria with all sorts of pains and penalties if she did not hoist tho pirate Hag ami declare for
Germany. Turkey, over and over again, has been used as a tool. When she protested tho iron boot of Germany put in overtime, and tho Turks were kicked into submission. During' the past twelve months it ha.s beeai necessary to apply this boot repeatedly to Turkey, and, as even a worm will turn, so has Turkey decided that it is time Germany had a taste of the kicking. There has always remained in Turkey a strong, iniluential section of people who remember that it is to Britain's efforts in the past that the Turkish Empire exists today. It is this element that lias quietly and consistently pursued a course- of action in Turkey which it was hoped would throw off the Genu an yoke. Some of these patriots have paid the penalty with their lives, but others took up the work." It is probably the fruits of this work that are to be seen to-day in the severance of the relations with Germany. Turkey has been kicked long enough, and has apparently decided to "kick against the kicks."
