TRENTHAM ESCAPEES.
ONE RECAPTURED
With reference to the recent oscapu of four military prisoners from the detention camp at Trentham, the Hon. Sir James Allen (Minister for Defence) stated yesterday that the sergeant of the guard is to be court-martitilled for neglect of duty in not carrying out the camp standing orders. The door of the hut in which the men were confined, should have been locked, but the sergeant had failed to secure it. Sir .lames Alien received advice yesterday afternoon that one of the prisoners— not one of the Larkiu brothers, however —had been captured. The three others are still at large. ' It appears that it is not true, as was stated at the time, that the sentry mi guard was kmc-ked on the head and gagged by the escapees. It is understood that one of the prisoners asked the sentry to allow him to go outside for a certain purpose. To this the sentry con-si-nted, and the man, opening the door suddenly, it happened that the edge oi.' the door caught the sentry a heavy blow ou the forehead, knocking him down senseless. The opportunity thus afforded was too good to be missed, and the men accordingly decamped.
