COMPETITION KEEN

Press Association—Electric Telecraph-Cop yriKh.

LONDON, Tuesday. At to-day's wool sales a, catalogue of 5615 bales was offered. There Avas an excellent selection, chiefly of New Zealand and Western Australian clips, and a large attendance. Keen competition ruled° especially for merinos, owing tothe scarcity, aiid best lots advanced 10 per cent; average sorts 5 to 7_- per cent, and fine crossbreds fully 5 per cent. Medium and'low qualities barely maintained previous levels. In the wool trade it is considered likely that tho Australian embargo on export Avill be removed, the general impression being that the situation demands the conservation of merinos for the next few months.

Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received a cablegram, from London, dated .oth inst., as under:—"Sales opened firm with good attendance. Merino advanced. 5 per cent to 7. per cent, fine crossbred adA-.-inced 5 per cent, medium to coarse crossbred shows no change. 5 -*

The Ncav Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date .'iOth tilt.: — Wool. Sales.—Strong competition. Merino 5 to 71 per cent, crossbred. 5 per cent higher than May- sth; medium, markef, firm with upward tendency: coarse, about same as last.
