A TROOPER KILLED.
RUN OVER BY A TRAIN
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. A sad accident occurred at tho Lamb-
ton station on Saturday night, in which Private Frederick William Black, a j Dunedin member of tho 4th Roinf orce- \ monts, mot his death. Black was found j lying on the rails next to tho platform at 112 p.m. Ho was unconscious, and terribly injured, his condition showing that ho had been run over by a train j some timo previously. No ono apparently saw tho occurrence, but Black was known to bo standing on the platform of a carriage attached to the outgoing train to Trentham. It is surmised that*ho foil, and was run over by that train, or that ho fell in front of the incoming Hutt train, which arrives at Lambton at 10.50 p.m. Dr Henry was summoned immediately. Black waa found by some of tho station hands, but ho died in tho waiting-room just before tho doctor arrived. Besides severe in- • tornal injuries and wounds on his head, ho had an arm and a leg broken. It is understood that Black was the son of Mrs Janet Black, a widow residing in . M'ornington, Dunedin.
