ALERTNESS AND PROMPTITUDE
OF OFFICERS
(Received Saturday, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Friday. The Asturias has arrived at Southampton.
Her crew state that a catastrophe Avas prevented owing to tho alertness and promptitude of the officer on the bridge. Seeing the white track of the
torpedo he brought the vessel round in a short half circle, tho projectile passing harmlessly astern.
(An oflicial message on Thursday stated that a German submarine fired a torpedo at the British hospital ship Asturias, off Havre, but missed. The Asturias Avas paiutcd white,--and had largo red crosses on her sides and funnels. There was not the slightest excuse for the outrage.)
