GERMAN BLUSTER.
BRITISH NAVY CAPABLE OF PRO
TECTING SERVICE
AUSTRALIAN OPINION
(Received Saturday, at 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Saturday.
Shipping circles regard the German threat to attack unarmed merchantmen with equanimity. The general opinion is that this is another instance of German bluster, and that'the British Navy is quite capable of protecting the merchant service. This sort of thing is always expected, and the Avondcr is that Aye have had so little of it. The passenger vessels are filling as usual.
The general manager of the Orient Lino thinks that the Germans are capable of any action after their attack on the hospital ship Asturias. Possibly the Avar rates Avill be raised, but it is inconceivable in view of other German threats that the public, is going to be intimidated.
Colonel Burns, of the Burns-Ph/lp Line, says that surely the greatest sea Power in the Avorld is canable of undertaking everything necessary to the safety of vessels in the English Channel. A threat of this kind is a desperate appeal to try and frighten people from folloAving their usual business.
