TIMARU, Monday

Arthur William Pctheriek stated that he received the liquor from the Court on November Uth, and took it away in Holland's motor car. They called, at Eagle's and had a drink. .Maple then joined them. They went to Tapliirs, then to Dagg's, .and then to Boyle's, delivering liquor at each place. They pulled up at the bridge at Dagg's, and witness carried the liquor in a bag and put it in a trap shed. He saw a man named Clancy breaking in horses, a girl, and another man he took for Mr R. J. Dagg, but whom he learned subsequently was Mr ,1. Dagg. On the return journey accused, not feeling satisfied about leaving the bag of liquor in Dagg's shed, stopped at Dagg's, secured the liquor again, and returned it to Eagle's, subsequently informing Dagg where it was. In the lower Court, when he made the statement that he had driven Dagg home the night before November 14th, accused was annoyed at the persecution of Sergeant Miller, and there was some wrangling between them. Accused was somewhat confused at the time, and simply blurted out the .statement. On thinking over the matter he saw that he had made a mistake, and that it was the night after November 14th, and not before, which he had driven Mr Dagg home. In cross-examination, accused stated that it was not true that on November ]4th 'he and Holland had only taken the liquor as far as Eagle's, and left it there.
