UNREGISTERED BARMAID

CHARGE DISMISSED,

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Monday. F. J. Oakes, licensee of the City Buffet Hotel, was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with having employed an unregistered barmaid. The defendant said he had accepted the girl's word that she was registered, but the police thought he should have made ■a more particular inquiry, and asked to be shown the certificate of registration. Counsel for the defence urged that the defendant had made reasonable inquiries. The Magistrate dismissed the charge, but upheld the police view that licensees should require a barmaid to produco her certificate.
