SHOT THROUGH MISUNDERSTANDING.
JOHANNESBURG, Sunday. Ernest Prescher, a privato in the Transvaal Scottish regiment, died* in hospital. It is understood that he was shot by a picket of his own regiment through a misunderstanding. He was three times challenged. Mr Burton, Minister for Railways, has issued a notice to railwaymcn still striking, instructing those desirous of re-employment to apply to their centres, adding that such as are required will be provisionally engaged at the previous grades of emoluments pending Parliamentary action. Mr Hoy, general manager of the railways, has telegraphed to the disaffected districts that it must bo distinctly understood that re-employed strikers or their wives will not bo allowed to use opprobrious terms or to. intimidate loyal workers.
