TOWN CLERK SHOT.
ENGINEER ON TRIAL
Press Association —Electric Telegraph—Copyrifihr. MELBOURNE, Monday. The trial h:is commenced of William Parker, a. surveyor, for wounding , James Thomas Knox, acting town clerk of Footscray, with intent to murder. Counsel for the defence pleaded temporary insanity. He said that Parker's brother, when twenty-three j'ears old, went to an asylum, where he had remained since. Parker was greatly worried that day.

It way reported on June 20th: '"'William Parker, engineer to the Footscrav Municipal Council, lias been arrested on a charge of attempting to murder James li. Ivnox, acting-Town Clerk of Footseray. The relations between the two have been strained for some time past. Knox formerly was assistant engineer, under Parker. A stand-up fight occurred last week.. Knox's condition is serious. He was shot in four places. ''
