THE NEW ASSEMBLY HALL.
The new Assembly Hall at the High School, which was opened by the Minister this afternoon, has been the fruit of ceaseless effort on the part of the headmaster, Mr W. H. Jackson. For seven or eight years Mr Jackson endeavoured to secure this valuable and commodious addition to tho school premises. First a half-promise was given by the Hon. Sir James Carroll when acting-Premier, and later that promise was repealed by the Hon. G. Fowlds, when Minister of Education. Eventually a grant of £1000 was made for the purpose, and now the Hall, which will hold about four hundred people, is a fait accompli. For this result Mr Jackson is entitled to praise and credit, for it is cor tain that but for his ceaseless and untiring effort the Hall would never have been erected. The local members of the Board of Education, Messrs A. W. Hogg and A. H. Vile, were associated with Mr Jackson in the scheme.
