ORGAN RECITAL.

Thero was a large attendance of music lovers at Knox Church lastnight to listen to the Organ Recital given by Mr T. C. Webb, the well known organist. Mr Webb chose for his programme the following pieces: —-'Trumpet March" (Jude), "'Chant Sans Paroles" (Tschaikowsky), •x "Grand Sonata in B Flat," (Mendelssohn), "Berceuse" (J_fiinare), "Prelude (Rachmaninoff), "Andante from •Quintet" (Mozart), and "Suite Gothiqne" (Boellmann). Vocal solos were sung by Mrs H. J. Francis, who sweetly sang "He Shall Feed His Flock" (Handel), Miss Jessie McGregor, who gave a good rendering of Mascagni's "Aye Maria," the violin obligate being ably played by Miss F. Cooke, and Mr Gordon Stewart, who gave a lino rendering of "Nearer My God to Thee" (Carey). Mr Webb's programme was one that was Aculated to suit all tastes ot lovers of good music and consisted of a number of popular and classical 1 gems, tiie organist being equally at home in either class aud he obtained many beautiful effects from the organ. In Jude's "Trumpet March" the trumpet was heard to advantage, while in the quieter pieces, "Chant Ss»ns Paroles," "Beiceuse" (Lemare), Mozart's Andante aud tho "Prayer" from Boellmaun's "Suite Gothique," the softer stops were employed, tho flutes aud voix celeste being admirably used. Mendelssohn's "Grand Sonata in B fiat"—one of the finest of the sonatas was played with great brilliancy. In the. first and last movements and in the second and third movements, the organist played with mucli expression and finish. The programme throughout was a capital one and was listened to with wrapt attention by those present and Mr Webb onco more demonstrated his masterj' of the organ.
