Pragnell, secretary of tho Masterton Firo Brigade, has now completed twenty-five years' service, and becomes entitled to tho United Fire Brigaaes' Association's gold star. Very Rev. Dean McKenna, of Masterton, is at present in camp with the mounted division of the Territorials at Tutira, and will not return to Masterton till tho end of next week. Mrs Johnston (Highdeu) and her daughter, Mrs Harry Holmes (Matahiwi), with her little sou and daughter, left for England to-day by the Reumora. "At the meeting of the Wellington .Education Board yesterday tho following resignations were accepted:—Miss V. Curtis, Petone; Miss M. Newton, Wainu:y_ mata; Miss E. B. Chapman, WhareJßh; Mr A. Thompson, Lansdowne ; Miss L. Davis, Mona; and Mrs Mallitte, Pencarrow. Mr R. Lee, chairman of tho Wellington Board of Education, is on a visit to Masterton. He came rip to attend the opening of the new Assembly Hall at the District High School. Mr Lee will go on to Pahiatua tomorrow, and will return to Wellington on Saturday. Tho Hon. J. A. Millar, ex-Ministor for Labour, was the recipient yesterday of a framed illuminated address from the staff of the Labour Department. The presentation was made byMr J. Lom'as, Secretary for Labour, at a gathering in the head office, Te Aro, among those present being tho now Minister for Labour (Hon. G. Lauronson). Mr Lomas expressed tho regret, with which the officers parted from Mr Millar, whom they regarded us a strong and capable administrator Mr Lanrenson said that Mr Millar had always been his friend, and he regarded him as a very able Minister. The Dopartment of Labour was an exceedingly difficult, one to administer. Mr Millar expressed his thanks for the presentation, and acknowledged gratefully the loyal service he had received from the officers of the Department.
