HURRICANE AT FIJI.
Mr D. E. Partou, of Master ton, haiW received information iv connection with the recent Jiurricane iv .Fiji tJiat. of the main islands, Vanua Leva and Tavnim suffered most. Viti Levn, which contains Suva, the capital, escaped the severest portion ot the gale. These hurricanes appear and travel in the form of spirals, and invariably pass some part or other of the islands untouched. The wireless stations at Labasa, on Vanua Levu, and Waievo, on Tavuini, were damaged, although not seriously. In the former case the aerial and spreaders were carried away. At Waievo, in addition to the aerials being damaged, theroof of the officers quarters was carried away. This station proved to be in the centre of the hurricane, and the staff had a trying and anxious time. Mr G. Apperiey, late of the Masterton. Post Office, is in charge of Waievo. The cocoanut plantations suffered very severely on Tavuini also.
