THREE MEN DEAD, FIVE IN SERIOUS

A disaster occurred yesterday at the Barrier mine, at Wyaloug West, a township lying J535 miles west of Sydney.

Noticing that a party of seven men who woro working below failed to respond in the customary way to a signal, the manager descended the luiue to investigate.

Ho found that five of the men had been overcome by foul air.

Of tho five, three were dead and tho two othors were prostrated.

The names of the three who were suffocated woro Frank Maguire, Rube Nicholson and Johu Mulnall.

Two brothors, John and Bert Navin, the remaining members of the party of seven, could not be found.

Though it is improbable that, they are still alive, a relief party is searching for them.

All tho dead men were married, and the scene at the top of the shaft when the three bodies were brought to the surface was heartrending.
