THE TRIAL COMMENCED.

FOUR PRISONERS BEING PROSECUTED,

The trial commenced on Monday at the Old Bailey, before Mr Justioe Grantham, and a jury, of the persons charged with the murder of three policeraon. the wounding of two others, and with conspiracy to break aud enter iuto the premises of Mr H. S. Harris, jeweller, of Houudsditch, ou Dee.rnber 16th last.

The prisoners, Russiau subjects, are : —Jacob Peters, aged twonty-four, tailor; John Zelin or Rosen, aged tweuty-six. barber; Zurka Dubof, aged twenty-four, painter; Nina Tassilleva, aged-twonty-three, cigar-ette-maker.

On the suggestion of Mr Justice Grantham, the charges of constructive murder against Peters aud Dubof were withdrawn, aud they are now being charged with beiug accessories.

Zelin aud Vassilleva have to answer charges of murder.

Zelin and the other three are also charged with conspiring to outer the jeweller's shop with intent to commit

a felony,

(Eight prisoners were originally accused, but the following have beeu discharged -.—Sara Rosie Trassinsky, aged twenty-six, a skirt finisher; Luba Milsteiu, aged nineteen, a skirt iinisher; OsipFederof, aged thirty, engineer; aud Karl Hoffmau, aged twenty-three, paperhanger and seaman. )
