Archdeacon Faucourt preached in St. Mark's Cliurch, Oarterton, ou Sunday. Monday being All Saints' Day, special services were held in the Church.
The Magistrate's Court returns at Carterton for the quarter show that 41 civil cases were dealt with. The aggregate amount sued for was £583 18s 9d, ami the actual amount recovered ££29(5 Us Id. Two applications were heard in Chambers, and two orders other than judgment summonses were made. Twenty-three plaints were entered, and ten distress warrants issued. Two judgment suuimousfis were served. The criminal returns disclose that 2S persous were taken into custody; live for theft from the person, twelve for breaches of the Police Offences Act, six for breaches of the Licensing Act, two under the Destitute Persons' Act, one man and one womau under the Lunacy Act, and two under the Oarterton" Borough By-laws. Of the total, five were discharged for want of evidence. 23 were summarily convicted, nine paid fines, and three suffered imprisonment instead of paying fines. Three suffered peremptory imprisonment. ; five orders were made and three persons were convicted aud discharged with a caution. Old Age Pension matters were also dealt with.
Monday morning's supply of milk at the Greytown Dairy Factory was 3000 gallons, being about 250 gallons ahead of last year. Mr Sparrow, of the firm of Messrs Mills, Sparrow and Co., of London, who deal largely in Nevv Zealand produce, is at present visiting the dairy factories in the Wairarapa. Mr Sparrow is oue of the delegates of the Imperial Chambers of Commerce Conference.
A case of scarlet fever is reported from Pigeon Bush. At a meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., Cartertou, on Monday evening, Bros. W. Erickson aud R. Smith were added to the committee arranging a social in connection with the card tourney, and the departure of Bro. P. Molloy. Three friends were proposed for membership, and one was initiated.
There were five births, oue marriage, aud no deaths in Greytown during October. The Greytown staff of the W.F.C. A. have presented Mr A. Spiro with a siiver-inounteci bread board aud a silver-mounted cut-glass jam dish, on the occasion of his retiring from the firm's employ after twelve years' service.
