In some classes, such as salaries, stables, office and lighting, the expenditure has been less thau iv the previous year. At the same time, it requires looking into, so that ratepayers can form au opinion as to the value which they receive for their money. The same may be said of the increase of expenditure for Fire Brigade purposes; but it cannot be urged as a plea for au increase iv Park maintenance. Results have, however, beeu so goorl in this reserve that the ratepayers are unlikely to grudge tiie extra money which they have cost.
