CROWN TENANTS' DISABILITIES.

ORDERS FOR GRASS SEED

Settlers are begiuuiug to complain about the delay that has occurred over the issue of orders for grass seed. Iv most places where the fires had beeu raging, a providential rain, that lasted several hours, fell on the morning of Monday, 2nd inst. The demand for seed became urgent, aud it was hoped that some promptitude would be shown. People able to purchase seed for themselves have now the pleasure of seeiug their paddocks becoming a beautiful colour, while the poor Crown tenants are almo t iuvariably looking at tne charcoal and ashes. Their cattle are suffering, the price of cocksfoot aud ryegrass is goiug up, aud they are kept waiting when they want to be off to remunerative work. The delay is attributed to the issue within the last few days of amended declarations in which the name of the storekeeper from whom they waut the seed must be giveu. Apparently no blame is to be attached to the rangers, who have been assiduously prosecutiug their enquiries aud endeavouring to help the settlers, but the slow pace observed elsewhere is greatly to be regretted.
