The Hope of Carterton Tent, I. 0.X., have elected Bros. W. H. Partridge and W. Tucker to represent them on the Friendly Societies' Council. A meeting of the Carterton School Committee was held on Monday night, Mr Johu Brown in the chair. The Education Board wrote complying with the request of the Committee that the old school building be painted. The Headmaster reported 252 scholars in the primary department, with an average attendance during the four weeks of 190. The roll of the secondary department had SG, with au average of 45. The total roll number was 308, aud the average attendance 235. Tho Headmaster recommended the cleaning out of the bathing hole on Callister Bros.' property, with a view to giving swimming lessons, and Messrs Callister, Moore and Reid were appointed to report on the matter. Mr Callister was appointed visitor for the mouth. The Martinborough Caledonian Society, on Monday night, resolved to grant "the Secretary a bonus of £5 5s for his services. Ou Monday afternoon, at Morrison's Bush, a lad named McNamara had a narrow escape from a serious accident. He was driving a hayrake along the road, when the horse shied, and the lad was thrown. He was caught in the tines of the implement, and dragged uutil the machine bumped agaiust a bridge a little distance ou aud released him. Help was soon available, and it was found that the boy had suffered some nasty cuts about the head, aud several stitches had to be put in.
