WELLINGTON BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.

INCREASED DEMANDS

.Mr Truebridge, Secretary of the Wellington Benevolent Trustees reported at the meeting of the Trustees, on Tuesday, that the cost of outdoor relict was on the increase. This was due not simply to the alteration iv the rations, which had been underestimated in quautity, but also to the fact that demands made were becoming enlarged. During the past three months the rents paid showed an increase as compared with the disburseroents for the same period of the year. The Treasurer suba statement of receipts ancl expenditure for the year. This showed receipts amounting to £5545, of which £4500 was from the Uuited Charitable Aid Board, £439 from Old Age pensions and £140 were contributions on account of persons sent to the Ohiro Home by local bodies. The expenditure amounted to £4946. The year began with a credit balance of £606, and ended with a credit balance of £1205. Some of the members commented ou the fact that the demands for relief were becoming somewhat abnormal, although the summer was usually a season when such demands abated. It was remarked that although there was no scarcity of work for the able and willing, a good deal of distress arising from poverty, combined with sickness, prevailed; and the ranks of the unfit were rapidly swelling.
