PERSONAL MATTERS.

Mr F. H. Wood, of Tauranga, is on a visit to Masterton, and will remain for the Show.

Mr Vincent Hooper, who recently left Masterton for Gisborne, to open in business on his own behalf, is at present on a visit to friends here.

Mr and Mrs C. E. Daniell left Masterton by the early train for Wellington, where they leave by the Warimoo for Sydney, en route for Home. A very large number of employees and friends were at the station to bid them farewell, and as the train steamed out hearty cheers were given.

A Wellington telegram states that the Rev. W. B. Marten, one of the best known Methodist ministers in New Zealand, died in Wellington yesterday. Mr Marten had laboured in the ministry in New Zealand for about 40 years.

Mr Collinge, of Masterton, has been, appointed by the Wairarapa Cricket Association to officiate as umpire on Wairarapa's behalf at the forthcoming match against the Marylebone Cricket Chib, on Tuesday and Wednesday next.
