WOOL MARKET.

[Special to Daily Times.")

Messrs Joseph Nathan and Co., 83, Gracechurch-street, London, E.G., report under date 30th October as follows :—

During the past three weeks values for tho finer grades of wool bavo been well maintained, the tendency being towards a higher level. Tho firmness of the market must be attributed, to a great extent, to the lateness of the arrival of the new season's wool from Australia, owing to tho delay in shearing caused by wet weather, manufacturers' stocks being barely sufficient to meet the requirements of machinery pending the receipt of fresh supplies.

The market for tho coarser growths of staple has not been so favorable, and prices for "tops" in the manufacturing districts have weakened since tho date of our last issue, the current quotation for a 40's top being lGd per lb, as against 17d, the figure ruling at tho closd of the September-October auctions, while tops are being offered for " forward " delivery at |d to Id per lb less than for parcels available for immediate use. The consumption of coarse wools, however, is well maintained, and it is generally thought that the weakness in their position is, in a large measure, due to " bear " sales mado with tho object of influencing the course of value 3at tho opening of the New Zealand auctions.

The gross arrivals to date for the sixth series of sales, which opens on the 27th proximo, amount to 37,956 bales, say, 23,793 Australian, 8503 New Zealand, and 5000 South African, of which about 3000 bales Australian, 1000 New Zealand, and 5000 South African, have been forwarded direct to the Continent, Yorkshire, etc.

The London wool sales during 1907 will open on the following dates : —First series, 15th January ; second series, 12th March; third series, '50th April; fourth series, 9th July; Jifth series, 24th September ; sixth series, 20th November.

The new arrivals for the first series will be limited to 180,000 bales nett, and for the second series to 150,000 bales nelt. The question of limiting the quantities for the remaining scries will be considered later.
