SAD FATALITY AT CARTERTON.

Child Accidentally Strangled

(Special to Daily Times.)

On Sunday morning, a child, named Leslie John Woodley, aged three years ten months, eldest son of Mr and Mrs E. Woodley, of Belvedere, Carterton, met his death by strangling. It appears that the bright little fellow was, as many children are, delighted to accompany his father wherever he went. At about S o'clock yesterday morning the child left the house to find his father, who had gone out about five minutes previously. A younger boy followed shortly after, and when in front of the house noticed his brother in a peculiar position on the gate. He immediately informed tin mother, who found that the poor little chap was suspended by his blouse from ona of the pickets of the gate, and was apparently quit l , dead. She immediately removed the child's body from the gate, and informed Mr Woodley. who attempted artificial means to restore animation, but without avail. It is surmised that the lad was climbing the gate, when one of the pickets entered the back of his blouse and suspended him, thus causing strangulation. Much sympathy is felt for the parents, and the sad occurrence formed the subject of a special prayer at St. Mark's Church on Sunday evening. An inquest is to be held.
