LATE COLONEL PITT.
The remains of the late Hon. A. Pitt were removed, on Sunday night, from the private hospital in Victoria-square, Christchurcb, to the Church of England Mortuary Chapel, Barbadoes street. The body was contained in a plain oak cofiin enshrouded in a Union Jack. Among tho3e who assembled at the chapel were the Hon. W. Hall-Jones, the Speaker and members of the Legislative Council, members of the House of Representatives, and Exhibition and Government officials. A detachment of the Permanent Artillery Force was in attendance, and also a body of Maoris (wearing mourning wreaths) from the Exhibition pah. At the conclusion of a brief ceremony, performed by Dean Harper, a procession was formed, and proceeded to the rail way station. On reaching the station the coffin was transferred to a special train, which left at once for Lyttelton, where the body was placed on the Government steamer Tutanekai, which left for Nelson shortly after the arrival of the second express bearing the Premier and the Hon. J. A. Millar. The Cathedral bell was tolled during the time the procession was proceeding to the railway station, and the Exhibition doors and entrances were closed during the same period.
