lion art, This Day
Terrific storms and rain have been raging on the West Coast for the past few days. At Queenstown the whole of the West Queen tramway has been washed away, and every bridge on Mount Lyall railway has been cither swept away or badly damaged. One house was completely demolished, and many were flooded. A number of people became isolated on a bit of rising ground, and had to be drawn through the turbulent waters by means of ropes to a place of safety. Flood waters have broken into North Lyall Mine, and filled the main shaft from the 800 ft to the 700 ft level.
