The Eketahuna Mounted Rifles held a trophy shooting match on Thursday afternoon, Trooper A. Fredericksen winning. Following are the principal scores:— Trooper Fredericksen, handicap 5, score 50, total 55 ; Trooper Burton, scr., 53, 53 ; Trooper Corlott, 10, 43, 53 ; Captain Herbert, 5, 48, 53 ; Trooper Little, 10, 40, 50; Trooper Prendeville, 5, 44, 49. The question of winter feeding is of importance to dairy farmers, and any practical suggestions are therefore of great value. Messrs Keam and Sons (who came from a district where it was compulsory to feed and stable stock in the winter) planted this year about three acres of thousand-headed kale (about twenty thousand plants). These plants grow to a height of about four feet. This fed fifty-two cows for six weeks, and they "came in" in excellent condition. This year most settlers have had losses in their herds, and the general complaint is that the stock are poor. Messrs Keam and Sons would be pleased to give any information re variety, mode of planting, etc. No doubt farmers will take advantage of the oiler made.

The Oddfellows and Druids started another round for the Friendly Societies' Cup on Tuesday, the Druids winning nineteen and Oddfellows eleven. • Refreshments were partaken of and a very pleasant evening spent.

I understand that Crs. Tumor and Yon Reden will not b} candidates at the forthcoming election. It is to be regretted that the wide experience in county matters possessed by these gentlemen should be lost when it will be most needed. Other councillors who will not seek re-election are Crs. F. Dowsett, A. J. Stone-Wigg and B. Morriss.
