An All-Night Sitting.
Stonewall Against the Personal
Defamation Bill
(By Telegraph — Special to Daily Times.)
Weliington, This Day,
The House has been sitting all night discussing a Criminal Code Amendment Bill designed to make defamation at public meetings or gatherings a crimmal offence. The Bill passed its second reading yesterday, but on going into Committee it was bitterly opposed by Messrs Taylor, Moss, Fisher and Bedford, who set up a stonewaH of a somewhat aggravating character. Vigorous snorts and yawns mmgled with the ten minutes speeches for a time; then the House, having frequently divided on motions to report progress, and that the Chairman leave the chair, became reduced to a bare quorum, and for over an hour tho speeches of the stonewallers were blocked by the ringing of the be' 1 calling the House together as members danced out and in. At the present tune—9 a.m.—the House is still sitting.
