Napier, Last Night,
The Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society's annual show was opened to-day. Th. attendance was a record for a first day. The entries were slightly less than last year, but the quality of the stock was very high, the show being generally regarded as one of the best that has bean held in the North Island.
The following are the championship winners: Lincoln ram, Douglas McLean ; Border Leicester ram, Nelson B: - os.; Border Leicester ewe, Hon. J. D. Ormond ; Merino ram, Douglas McLean; Merino ewe, Douglas McLean; Shropshire ram, W. A. Beecroft; Shropshire ewe, Douglas McLean ; Southdown ram, G. P. Donnelly; Southdown ewe, Nelson Bros.; Shorthorn bull, Rathbone Bros.; Shorthorn cow, Mount Herbert Estate ; Hereford bull, Slack Bros.; Hereford cow, Slack Bros.; draught sire, Douglas McLean; draught mare, Douglas McLoan; Barkshire boar, Slack Bros.; Berkshire sow, Slack Bros.; Yorkshire boar, W. J. Harris ; Yorkshire sow, -W. J. Harris; Tarn worth boar, E. White; Tarnworth sow, R. Welhvood; Romney Marsh ram, G. Wheeler; Romney Marsh ewe, Hutchinson and Son; Jersey bull, Paul Hunter ; Jersey cow, Paul Hunter.
The points prizes were:— Shorthorn cattle, Archdeacon S. Williams ; dairy cattle. Slack Bros.; Lincoln sheep, Douglas McLean; Leicester Border sheep, Nelson Bros.; Romney Marsh sheep, E. Short; Shropshire Downs, Douglas McLsan; Sonthdowns, Nelson Bros.; crossbreds, Douglas McLean ; fat sheep, Nelson Bros.; farmers' stock, W. Bridgman; pigs, E. White.
The ladies' hunters competition was won by J. Coombe's Duchess, and the leaping competition by Miss Reynolds' King Jimmy >
