Auckland, Last Night.
The steamer Surrey, which i was leaving port for the South without a pilot to-day, went aground in the Eangitoto Channel, near Rough Kock buoy". She was*apparently undamaged, and haying floated off, proceeded on her voyage. The insurance on the Foresters' HalJ, Birkenhead, which was burned last night, was J2500. Tho loss is estimated at £200 above this. Incendiarism is suspected Wellington, Last Night. A large fire broke out to-night in the kerosene bond between the City and Kaiwarra. At time ot writing (midnight) the fire is raging fiercely, and violent explosions are occurring. Particulars are at present unavailable. Trie Customs returns for the last month constituted a record, the amount being £279,000.
