FALSE PRETENCES,
Victor Ellis, charged with procuring board under false pretences, was defended by Mr C. A. Pownall, and was remanded. Bail \va3 allowed in one surety of £20. DRUNKENNESS AND OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Peter Jackson was charged with drunkenness, also with having used obscene language. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges. Constable Laarcnouth and Sergeant O'Malley gave evidence as to accused, who was a prohibited person, being helplessly drunk on Sunday night. The Magistrate said accused was one of those persons to whom leniency was impossible. One month's imprisonment, with hard labour, on the charge of obscene language, was imposed. A fine of £5, or fourteen days' imprisonment, was imposed on the charge of drunkenness.
