FEATHERSTON NOTES.

The annual meeting of the Featherston Gun Club took place in the Oddfellows' Hall, Feathereton, on Wednesday night. The weather being va-y stormy, very few members were present. The finances of the Club are in a very satisfactory condition, a fact which was favourably commented on by the mambers. There i-s a credit balance of £20 11s 10d, and a credit of assets over liabilities of uioro than JG2'2. The election of officers resulted as follows: —

President, W. Barton, Esq.; Vice-pre-sidents, Messrs A. Matthews and Allan Donald ; Committee, Messrs M. Hyland, C. Burfc, T. Skippage, C. Elliott and H. Buck ; Treasurer, Mr S. Murphy ; Secretary, Mr P. E. Merlet; Auditor, Mr E. Robertson.

The Club is trying to arrange, for a teaim , match with tho Carfcorton Club, which will eventuate at an early date.

Messrs BoDJanian and Co. are presenting a trophy, valued at £1 7s, through Mr E. Eobertsou, to the Club. The latter gentleman was voted hearty thanks as retiring Secretary, as to him the present flourishing state of tho Club is largely due. Votes of thanks were also passedto the following gentlemen who have kindly given donations to the Club .-—Messrs J. Hay ward, H. Willis, C. Matthews, J. S. Cundy, J. Fuller and G. Bnrt.

The Club has now a membership of forty, and starts tho season on the Ist of September, with three trophies and a gold medal. One more of Featherston's old identities has passed away in Mr William John Spackinan, who died at his residence, Fox-street, on Thursday, aged sixty-four years. The deceased gentleman has been a sufferer for the last ten months, so that his death was not wholly unexpected. Mr Spackinan was born in Otaki, coming to Featherston some twenty years ago, and up to the time of his ilinese followed his profession as wheelwright. Although of a retiring disposition deceased took great interest in tho Presbyterian Church, of which he was an Elder. He was also a teacher in the Sunday School. Any project on foot for tho amusement of the rising generation, Mr Spackinan was one of the first to help. Deceased leaves a grown-up family of four daughters and six sons. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon.

Featherston Golf Club Ladies' Competition, which was to have been played on Thursday, had to be postponed on account of the weather.
