Monthly Meeting.

The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands 'Trustees was held in the Trust Office, last evening. Present: Messrs C. E. Danicll (chairman), J. A. lJonall. E. Foist, T. Michel! and T.

VrtggThe Treasurer reported dr. balance, as per bank book, .£842 6s 9d ; cr. amount jit deposit in the bank, .£196 Os yd. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows :—

From Mr J. Prendvillc, renewing application for Town Ha)l for Show week, i'or the St. Patrick's Ba/.aav. He stated that they were prepared to pay £25 for the Hall for the week. He pointed out that the prolits would be expended in the town for educational purposes. —The letter was held over, a motion by Mr ,T. A. Kenall, that the offer be accepted, not being taken, owing to a previous resolution having been carried to the effect that tenders should be called for the Hal for that week.

Mr A. Henderson waited on the Trustees as a deputation from the Physical Training School, and asked that the iSehool "receive a grant this year; also, that the Trustees favourably consider increasing the amount from i,'lo to £1">. He pointed out that the School were doing good work now, their membership was largely increasing, and that in four or rive"years they hoped to be selfsupporting.—The "deputation was received, and an assurance given that the matter would be considered when the grants were being made. From Mr Sitnou O'Kegan, notifying the Trustees that he had taken po3session of the cottage on part Town Acre 44. and had already spent about £15 in improvements. Some discussion ensued as to whether this was in accordance with the terms of the lease. Some of the Trustees considered he should pull down the old building and erect new buildings to the value o£ £200. Others thought if he added £150 to the value of the building purchased from the Trust for £'50, ho would bo complying with the conditions. —No action was taken.

From Mr K.Kigg, applying for balance of contract money for repairs to Mr McLeod's shop.—On tho motion of Mr Michel!. seconded by Mr Wagg, it was decided to pay the amount on the production of the architect's certificate and subject to the usual conditions. From Mr J. Hipkins applying for a seven years lease of a shop in the " Star " Block, now occupied by him at :i rental of £1 2* 6d and rates.—On the motion of Mr Wagg, seconded by Mr Michell, it was decided to grant the lease at a rental of £1 5j per week and rates.

From Messrs Gawith and Logan, claiming £7f>, under the " Betterment Act, 1903," for compensation foe improvements to Trust property by widening Bannister-street. — Tne letter was laid on the table and the Secretary instructed t3 make full enquiries before the next meeting of the Trust. From the Wellington School Commissioners advisiug that on the 3rd inst. it was decided to take no action with regard to the disposal of Section 104 Block. Otahoua. pending the result of certain negotiations, now in progress, and which it was hoped would satisfactorily settle the difficulties as to fencing road access, etc., referred to in ihe letter from the Trust Secretary, dated June 23rd. It was further stated that the Trust would be advised as soon as the matter had been arranged.

It was decided that the Secretary write to the Commissioners, informing them if they did not fence the land the Trustees would fence at their expense. Messrs G. Hyde, H. Madeley and W. M. Easthope waited on the Trust, as a deputation from the Poultry Association, in reference to an alleged over-charge for the Drill Hall, made by the Volunteers. They also asked that when renewing the lease of the Hall the Trustees insert a clause, providing that the Poultry Association have the hall at a reasonablerental (the amount to be settled upon by the Trust).—Messrs Daniell and Pienall were appointed as arbitrators between the parties concerned, with a view to amicably arranging the matter in dispute. The Committee appointed to enquire into the fencing arrangements with Dr. Hosking recommended that he be paid £6 towards the cost of the work. It was also recommended that Mrs Syverston be paid £4 compensation. The accounts amounted to £Qo 16s Bd, and were passed for payment, with the exception of one account for £4, which was left in the hands of tbe Secretary to enquire into an overcharge.
