"THE MARRIAGE OF KITTY."

A rare treat will be presented to playgoers on Friday evening next, when one of the most important comedy successes of recent years will be produced for the first time here by Mr J. C. Williamson's New Comedy Company. We refer to the piece with the attractive title of "The Marriage of Kitty," which has just been presented for nine nights in Auckland to enormous houses. The record of this mirth provoking play is worthy of note, having ■ been one of remarkable and continuous success. In Paris—the piece is a translation from the French—it ran for over two years; in London its success has in many respects been altogether unique, and English critics assert that within their recollection no other comedy has excelled it in popularity. Iα America the verdict oC London and Paris was endorsed, the leading theatres both in the United States and Canada being utilised for its production.

Under Mr Williamson's regime " The Marriage of Kitty," proved a very great draw in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, and the success judging from the result of the Auckland season, in hkely to be repeated throughout this colony. A leading Australian critic said of the play itself:—" Bound the central thread of the plot is grouped a serie3 of cleverly conceived situations, piquant, laughable and sentimental in turn, supported by a dialogue in which the rapier wit of the French author is joined with the more boisterious humour of the translator. Every act has its full proportion of interest and amusement, the tangled skein is unravelled without any diversion into farcical by-paths, and throughout, the development of the plot goes on to the accompaniment of unalloyed merriment, evoked rather by the comedy of the scenes than by any improbable absurdition." Mr Williamson's name acts as such a magnet to' theatregoers— and deservedly so because of the magnicent attraction under his direction—that his companies invariably appear to crowded houses, as is certain to be the case on the following occasion. Patron?, therefore, would do well to get their seats at once at Mr Elliot's, where the plan for " the Marriage of Kitty " is now open.
