Chinese on the Rand
Larger Employment of
Europeans.

Lord Milner has informed the Colonial Secretary that the Chinese labourers on the Rand are apparently keen to become efficient miners. They neither tear nor dislike working underground, and the experiment justifies every effort to ensure a steady stream of indentured labourers from the same source.

One hundred and thirty-six whites are working on the New Comet mine on the Band, as compared with 34 prior to the arrival of the Chinese.
