Admiral Withoaft's last signal from the Czarevitch was :—" Rsmember the Emperor's orders: not to return to Port Arthur."

" Reports of the fighting state that four battleships and two cruisers surrounded the Czarevitch, towards Shantung, and rained shells upon her. A twelve-inch shell struck the conning tower and rebounded, killing Admiral Withoeft and severely wounding AdtniralMatussevitch, who was second in command. It also struck another officer. The men who were working the guns were annihilated. The survivors describe the scone as infernal. Men turned grey from the awful expsrience. Admiral Withoeft, just before he was killed, said, " This is our lust iight. We must be brave."
