The New Federal Ministry.

(Received Last Night, at 10.37 p.m.) Melbourne, Yesterday.

The new Ministry has been sworn in as follows ■:—Mr Reid, Prime Minister and Minister for External Affairs; Sir Geo. Turner, Treasurer; , Sir Joseph Symon, Attorney-General.■;.'.Mr Dugald Thompson, Minister for Home Affairs ; Mr A. McLean, Minister for Customs ; Mr McCay, Minister for Defence ; Mr Sydney Smith, Postmaster-General; Mr Drake, Vice-President of the Executive.

Sir J. Symon will also act as leader of the Senate.

Mr Reid, in announcing the Ministry, explained that Sir George Turner had joined him on terms of equality and in the capacity of joint leader. He had assisted in selecting the Cabinet, but owing to tho condition of his health precluding any work beyond his own department Sir George Turner bad resigned the joint leadership, and Mr McLean had been asked to accept the position. Mr Watson congratulated the Ministry, and promised them fair play. The Supply Bill of was passed, and the House adjourned till September 6 to allow Mr Reid to prepare his policy. In the discussion on the Supply Bill, Sir William Lyno announced that an early opportunity would be taken after re-assembhng to test whether Mr Reid had a majority. During the debate on the Supply Bill, Mr McDonald bitterly attacked Mr Reid. He had, he. said, no majority, but had compelled to join him, by absolutely sinking the convictions of a lifetime, mon he had treated with political contempt. He hid not had the courage to bring a no confidence motion against the Labour Governmsnt; therefore adopting a subterfuge and a trick. He accused Mr Dcaktn of a base act of treachery in negotiating with the Freetrade and Labour Parties at the same time. In fact Mr Deakin had his party up for sale to the highest bidder.
