THE BUTTER MARKET.

Outlook for the Future.

The Opunake paper, commenting on -the present state of the butter market, says:—"Dairymen admit that threepence a gallon is a payable price, and a living is to be made out of it even at a shade less, but then the provisos come in. It will not pay at threepence, or less, on land which, during the past ten years, has doubled in price or rental, and where dairy herds have been bought at an average of eight to nine pounds per _cad as against the average value ten years ago of £4 10s to £5. Should the .price of butter on the London market continue to recede, many farmers will be forced to follow the lead of financial and commercial institutions and reconstruct."
