LATE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE.

Romance of His Life

A Strange Story.

To many people the statement that the Duke of Cacibridge will be buried *' beside his wife " will come as a surprise. In the peerages and all the formal works of reference the aged Duke was treated as though he had been unmarried. The fact is, however, that years ago the Duke contracted a deep and sincere affection for an actress named Miss Farebrother, and shorily afterwards the two were brought together for life by a quite and officially unrecognised ceremony of marriage. By tbe intimate friends of the family this untitled Duchess was held in much esteem; to strangers either her existance was unknown, or she was made the theme of cheap scandal. In 1890 this lady died, leaving several children (who bear the name of FitzGeorge), and a senso of bereavement in the Duke which 14 years of lonely life have not served to efface. Hence the burial in the public cemetery of Kensal Green, rather than in a Royal mausoleum —to which his princely rank entitled him.
