ST. PATRICK'S DAY SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

Meeting of Committee.

The fortnightly meeting of the Executive Committee of St. Patrick's Day Sports Association was held in the Central Hotel, on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs J. Creelm'an (in the chair), B. J. Dolan, B. Chapman, A. Haughey, E. G. Williams, J. C. McKillop, H. O'Leary, R. J. Hodgins, P. Hamill, F. O'Toole and P. O'Leary (hon. sec). Mr Hodgins introduced a deputation, consisting of Messrs Egan, Rose, Johnston and Wintermgham, representing the cycle riders of Masterton. Mr Egan pointed out the unfavourable condition of the cycle track at the Oval, and stated unless it were put in order a large number of riders would not compete at the meeting. The track was in worse order now than it was before the work was done to it by the Caledonian Society. He thought the extra nomination fees that would be received would compensate the Society for making some expenditure on the track. Mr Rose endorsed tbe remarks of Mr Egan, and stated that with the track in its present condition it was impossible for three riders to finish together with, any degree of safety. Mr Haughey thought it was hardly fair that the Caledonian Society and the Association should keep the Borough Council's track in order ; more so when the riders were charged 5s before being allowed to train on same. "Why should not the different sports societies collect the charge if they bore the cost of maintenance ? Mr Hodgins said he had inspected the track at the request of a number of riders, and found that it was in very bad order—it was, in his opinion, dangerous to life and limb. Eventually, Messrs Hodgins, Haughey and Chapman were elected a committee to inspect the track in conjunction with the deputation, and report at a general meeting of members, to be held on Saturday next, at 8 p.m. The Caledonian Society wrote, re sharing cost of putting the cycle track in order.—The letter was held over to a future meeting. Correspondence was also received from the Hibernian Society, Dunedin, re Irish, piper for sports; N.Z. League of Wheelmen, re permit; and from Ulic Shannon (handicapper). The Secretary was instructed to obtain the charge from the Masterton Band for playing at the sports on St. Patrick's Day. The following new members were elected:—Messrs W. Evans, Wm. Kenny, AY. Darby, J. M. Coradine, J. Cress, P. Slattery, J. Bannister and D. Barrett.
