# Church and State. Statement by the Premier. (Received To-day, at 12.6 a.m.) Paris, August 10. M. Coombes, tho Premier, addressing 3500 school teachers at Marseilles, declared that the congregations, supported by tho higher ranks of the clergy, had been trying for fourteen months to provoke a religious civil war, but had signally failed, ag the whole of France supported tho Government's policy. If the opposition continued the Gov eminent would consider tbe advisability of modifying the relations of the Church arid State. _____________
