Canterbury v. Wairarapa.

Wairarapa Defeated

[By Telegraph — Press Association). Christchurch, This Day,

For the Wairarapa-Canterbury match the weather was fine and the ground in j good order. Canterbury were far too good for the visitors, winning by 28 points to nil. The visitors' forwards were about equal to the local men, but their backs showed very poor defence. The Canterbury backs all played well and the game was productive of fine passing, which beat the opposition badly. In the first spell, Thompson scored nine minutes after starting, and Roddick converted. A few minutes later, Menzies got over, but no goal was kicked. Boddick was the next to score, but failed to convert. From a mark near half-way Lavery kicked a goal, and a few minutes later Thompson scored, but the kick was a failure. The visitors got on a little passing, and the forwards rushed the ball to within a few yards of the home line, but lost an almost certain score by kicking into touch. In the second spell, Lavery placed a goal. Then the visitors got a mark in a good position, and Bogers just missed a goal. Lavery next scored for the local team. Prom another rush, Thompson scored. No goal resulted. In the last few minutes, the visitors' forwards livened up, and worked the ball to the Canterbury twenty-five, where the local men contented themselves with kicking into touch. ( By lelegraph—Special to Daily Times). Chkistohukch, This Day. The Canterbury match was the best exhibition of back play seen on Lancaster Park for some years. The score comprised six tries (one converted) and two goals from marks. The team left for Invercargill this morning.
