THE PAHIATUA HOSPITAL.

At a meeting of the Masterton District Hospital Board, held to-day, Mr J. Martin, representing the Featherston County Council, moved as follows:— That the resolution of the District Board, passed on 27th March, 1903, practically adopting the requisition of the Pahiatua Hospital Trustees, for 1903-4 by reducing the total amount thereof by £200, be rescinded, with a view to enabling the Board to re-consider tho requisition as a whole, on tho ground that the Board, as disclosed by correspondence, was misled respecting the opinion of tho Assistant Chief Health Officer in regard to the requisition. Mr Martin recapitulated the circumstances of the incident.

A quantity of correspondence was read.

Dr Valintine was present, and in his explanation stated that unofficially he expressed the opinion that the ward should bo completed, but denied emphatically that he approved of tho expenditure. Various members of the Board spoke to tho motion, and it was generally disclaimed that it was considered the Pahiatua representatives had wilfully misled the Board.

Finally it was decided to eliminate from the motion tho referenco to the Pahiatua representatives' statement being of a misleading nature, and the amended motion was agreed to. It was resolved to re-consider the estimates at a future meeting, Dr Valintine to report on the requirements in the meantime.
