There was a large attendance at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening last, on the occasion of the farewell social to the members of the Garlyon family. At the commencement, Mr A. Donald (Chairman of tho Town Board), presented Mrs Carlyon with a purse of sovereigns and a silver mounted emblem, in case, as a token of the esteem in which the family was held by the residents of the district.
The attendance at the public school during tho past- week dropped to half the roll number, owing to the prevalence of measles amongst the pupils.
Tho fifth of the series of trophy firing competitions by members of the locai Rifle Club, took place on Thursday afternoon. The highest scores wero : Messrs Cobcroft, 90; Keys, 87 ; and Sinclair, 83.
