WOODVILLE NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent).

The Horticultural Society's Annual Show was held on Wedneday in the Drills Hall. The weather was all that could be desired and the attendance good. Though the number of entries was not as great as usual owing to the very late still the show was a very fine one. fancy work, painting and industries really excellent both in number and quality and the flowers made a handsome show. Taken all round it was a grand success. Mr Jas. Taylor won the points prize, Mrs Jackson second, and Mrs W. Henderson, of Dannevirke, third. Messrs Laird, of Wanganui, exhibited some magnificent bulbs, and Weightman, of Awahuri, a splendid show of cactus dahlias. Mr Stevenson, Hon. Sec, Messrs Bagley and Nicol, assisted by the other teachers all worked, very hard to make the Show as usual a great success. Mesdames Manisty, McKibbin and Stevenson managed the refreshment rooms and were well patronised.

Mr Stevenson received the welcome news, yesterday, that the Education Board, after all, are going to rebuild his house. Considering the fact of the studs being hopelessly rotten, I cannot understand the delay in arriving at such a decision.

Our local Jockey Club have been having a little split up. Mr Redwood, Clerk of Scales, had occasion to fine one Quinlivan for being late at the scales, and the members of the took it upon themselves, in Mr wood's absence to remit the fine. The latter felt that no other course was left him but to resign, which he did. He will bo much missed as he was a keen sportsman and knew his work.
